Water Play

What to do today? May we suggest water play?

Water play is a great activity which children love! It is also be very therapeutic and refreshing.

There are a lot of benefits of water play for the children. Among them:

1) Sensorial experience as the children feel the water on their hand and skin. You could make the water colder by adding some ice or pour warm water to make it warmer to let the children experience different temperatures, put some food colouring for senses of sight or put in some fragrant soap for the sense of smell.

2) Help the children to develop their gross motor skill if the activity required the children to transfer water using a bucket for example.

3) Help the children to develop their fine motor skill. If you put some liquid soap, ask them to swirl the water with their hands to make the water bubbly. Having to hold small toys in the soapy water will also help them practice their grasping which is part of fine motor skills.

4) Hand eye coordination can be improved if the children need to scoop out things from the water. Put some small toys in the water and prepare scoops or fish net for them to scoop out those small toys.

Children love fishing for things from a pool of water. This is actually very good for their hands eyes coordination. All you need to do is put some toys or things of different sizes in the water container. Provide the children with either scoop or fish net and let them do the fishing for hours of fun.

While doing this activity though, never leave the children unattended and watch out for slippery surfaces especially when you are using soap.
