Water Play: Washing
Washing dishes is a life skill. Washing dishes can also be a sensorial activity that stimulates the sense of touch. A new study conducted by researchers at Florida State University suggests the simple act of washing the dishes could actually encourage a state of mindfulness, which has been linked to improved well being, reduced levels of stress, and even immune system boosts. To do the activity, prepare a large container filled with soapy water. Prepare “dirty” plastic dishes for the children to wash in the container.
Talk to them about what they feel – is the water cold or warm? How is the texture of the sponge? How about the bubbles? Why do we need to wash our dishes?
